Heroes, ghosts, giant snakes and spider spirits from the underworld! Ukiyo-e prints are well known for depicting scenes of civilised entertainment, often featuring beautiful women and well-known actors or evocative Japanese landscapes.
However there is also a strong tradition of producing images related to stories of heroes and tales of adventure. QUT Art Museum holds a number of woodblock prints in this genre and Heroes and Magicians: Adventures in the Floating World brings together a selection of these vivid and engaging works.
