Art Beyond the Classroom [ABC] is an immersive, full day program for secondary students designed to encourage cultural literacy and critical thinking through contemporary art and new media.

Celebrity selfies is a great way to start your school year. This program will begin with a curator led tour and discussion of Shape of things to come at The Block, Creative Industries Precinct. This exhibition showcases the best creative works by artists and designers who have graduated from QUT Creative Industries in 2013, giving students an insight into the many creative industries and pathways to careers of the future. Students will then attend the Photoshop workshop where they will learn the essentials in a fun and creative environment, composing a digital mash up of celebrities and themselves, they will produce a new image which will be printed at the end of the session for them to take home.

This Art Beyond the Classroom program coincides with Wood: art design architecture, a touring exhibition from South Australia's Jam Factory exploring innovative and outstanding uses of wood in contemporary Australia art, design and architecture.

The program begins with a curator-led tour of the exhibition at QUT Art Museum, followed by a tour of Old Government House with historian Dr. Katie McConnel, who will focus on the use of wood in the construction of the House.

Students will then participate in a workshop in collaboration with exhibiting artist, designer and maker, Christina Waterson, gaining hands-on experience working with wood to create a contemporary design piece.

Art Beyond the Classroom [ABC] is an immersive, full day program for secondary students designed to encourage cultural literacy and critical thinking through contemporary art and new media.

Animate this! begins with a curator led tour and discussion of ANtIMATION, an exhibition exploring the many materials and techniques used by animators to create diverse visual languages through moving image.

Students will then participate in an Animated GIF workshop. More than a photo but not quite a video, GIFs, (or Graphics Interchange Format), are one of the oldest image formats used on the internet. Students will learn how to create their own moving image artwork using the GIF medium.
