Join local writer and illustrator Kathleen Jennings for a Silhouette Bookplate workshop developed in response to our current exhibitions Spowers & Syme and A Matter of Looking: 20th century works from the QUT Art Collection at QUT Art Museum.

Join Kathleen to explore the principles of silhouette art, cutting techniques, composition and design to create a silhouette bookplate in a style of your very own!

Kathleen Jennings book illustration clients include Simon & Schuster, Little, Brown and company, Tor.com, Small Beer Press, Subterranean Press, PS Publishing, working with authors such as Kelly Link, Karen Joy Fowler, Owen King, Garth Nix and Angela Slatter.

Her art has won one World Fantasy Award (and been a finalist as an artist three other times) and has been shortlisted for the Hugos and the Locus Awards. She has also received the E. G. Harvey Award for Australian SF Art and several Ditmar Awards.

She works primarily in dip pen and ink and cut paper, with digital colours, drawing on early and mid-20th century illustrative traditions.

As a writer, her works include the (illustrated) Australian Gothic novella Flyaway and the written sketchbook Travelogues: Vignettes from Trains in Motion. She has won a British Fantasy Award (the Sydney J Bounds Award) and several Ditmars, and been shortlisted for the World Fantasy Award, The Courier-Mail People’s Choice Book of the Year Award and the Crawford Award, among others.

Spowers & Syme is a National Gallery Touring Exhibition supported by Visions of Australia, Major Patron David Thomas AM, and the Gordon Darling Foundation. Spowers & Syme is a Know My Name project.
