LOOKOUT
LOOKOUT celebrates the research and creative projects of QUT students. The program invites undergraduate and postgraduate students across all faculties to submit proposals for showcasing an artwork, research project, design object, or similar creation related to their university studies. Selected projects will be featured in QUT Art Museum's window box. Both completed projects and conceptual proposals are welcome.
12 October – 29 November: Furniture Design and Fabrication students (School of Architecture and Built Environment)
ABB336 Furniture Design and Fabrication challenges students to design and fabricate a stool from reclaimed construction waste. Through design development, ergonomic modelling, and the construction and presentation of a scale 3D prototype, students develop practical and sustainable interior design skills. This display features Topple and S1, two designs selected from the 2025 cohort.
Topple by Ella McCoy, Hope Murray, Emily Webb and Jin-Rong Hsu
Topple is a response to evolving workplace needs. Informed by theoretical research and iterative ergonomics testing, this dynamic stool can be flipped to offer a range of seating experiences. Made from reclaimed particle board, its curves are inspired by hilly terrain and eucalyptus-lined landscapes. Download the poster to find out more (PDF, 3.2mb).
S1 by Will Morrison, Amy Johns, Sophie Congreve, Emily Higgs and Cerys Taylor
Sourced from 90% reclaimed construction waste, the S1 stool is composed of two interlocking steel components that are bent, formed, and bolted to form a singular, cohesive structure. When repeated, these modules can be extended to create a continuous, spinal form. The design prioritises adaptability and efficiency as it is easily assembled, highly modular, and suited to support the future of the workplace. Download the poster to find out more (PDF, 3mb).
