There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed ...

Jessie Burton

Texta is no ordinary book club; it's for people who love art. We use fiction (mostly) to unpack the subjects, themes and emotions of art. Conversation is never colourless, and is facilitated by our brains trust from QUT Creative Industries Faculty.

To coincide with the exhibition miffy & friends, the novel The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton, a story of love and obsession, betrayal and retribution, appearance and truth.

Set in 1686, eighteen-year-old Nella Oortman, arrives in Amsterdam to begin her new life as the wife of an illustrious merchant trader. She is gifted a cabinet-sized replica of her home and engages the services of an elusive and enigmatic miniaturist. Unusual secrets are revealed through the construction of the dollhouse, as the miniature creations mirror their real-life counterparts in eerie and unexpected ways.

The evening commences with a tour of miffy & friends, followed by generous amounts of conversation about the selected title from your home. Please note we are not able to offer beverages at this time. Discussions will include audio descriptions of the artworks, which are accessible to people who are blind or with low vision.

Texta is held through the year on Tuesday evenings from 6:15PM. Purchase this title from the QUT Bookshop
